Musculoskeletal Sonography, Joint and Tendon Ultrasound in Kandivali West
Musculoskeletal (MSK) sonography images muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints in real time, including while you move. This dynamic capability is a meaningful advantage over MRI for many soft-tissue problems. A tendon tear that is subtle on a static scan may become obvious when the limb is put through its range of motion during the scan. It is radiation-free and significantly faster than MRI for a focused clinical question.
Areas We Assess
Shoulder
Rotator cuff tendons (supraspinatus, infraspinatus, subscapularis), subacromial bursa and biceps tendon for tears, tendinosis and impingement.
Knee
Patellar tendon, quadriceps tendon, collateral ligaments, Baker cyst and joint effusion.
Ankle and Foot
Achilles tendon, peroneal tendons, plantar fascia (plantar fasciitis) and ankle ligaments.
Elbow
Lateral and medial epicondylitis (tennis and golfer elbow), distal biceps tendon and ulnar nerve.
Hip
Hip joint effusion in children (irritable hip), iliopsoas bursitis and gluteal tendon assessment in adults.
Dynamic Assessment
Scanning tendons through movement to detect instability, snapping tendons or impingement not visible at rest.
When Should You Get This Done?
- Shoulder pain with difficulty lifting the arm. A rotator cuff tear is a common and detectable cause.
- Knee swelling or a lump behind the knee that appeared after an injury or gradually.
- Heel or ankle pain that is worse in the morning or after exercise. Plantar fasciitis and Achilles tendinopathy are both well-assessed on ultrasound.
- Elbow pain on the outer or inner side, especially in racket sport players or manual workers.
- A child with a painful, limping hip. Joint fluid needs to be detected or excluded quickly.
Why Choose Ashray Healthcare
Dynamic Real-Time Scanning
Dr. Oswal assesses tendons through active and passive movement during the scan, providing information that a static MRI cannot always replicate.
Subspecialty-Trained Reporting
The EDiR (European Diploma in Radiology) requires high standards of ultrasound competency, ensuring structured, evidence-based interpretation.
Faster Pathway for Common Injuries
For rotator cuff tears and tendinopathies, a radiologist-performed ultrasound can give an answer at the same appointment.
What to Expect
- No preparation is needed. Wear or bring clothing that allows easy access to the affected joint.
- The probe is moved over the skin with gel. You will be asked to move the joint in certain directions during the scan. This is normal and helps the assessment.
- The scan typically takes 20 to 30 minutes per joint.
- A written report with images is provided the same day.
